Teaching the Tweens: cumulation of stress

This fascinating article, Broadening the World of Early Adolescents, from the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development gives a pretty complete picture of the little balls of energy, fear, and hormones in your care this summer. A good read to give you perspective on what you’ll be facing. Take a few minutes to read it.

This article and much more (including creative lessons, teaching tips, and advice) are available at Middleweb, an expansive resource for middle school teachers. “One of those websites you can get completely lost in,” says teaching alum Stephanie Lee (Sac ’05, Hong Kong ’06). Head to http://middleweb.com when you hit one of the inevitable lesson-planning rough spots. Of course, don’t forget Sofia Pablo-Hoshino’s (SF ’06) advice, “Know that your fellow teachers will be some of your greatest resources.”
