A Prestige Profession

The way-too-smart-for-his-own-good Matthew Yglesias has a post up at The Atlantic about the prospects for turning teaching into one of the “Prestige Professions” along with, I assume, doctoring, lawyering, and governing.  He states the major roadblocks to this project, the larger issues, and possible compromise.

Check it out, along with the piece it refers to, “Can teaching be a prestige professtion?” (The American Prospect), as well as the piece this one refers to, “Fixing It: Education” (Slate).

Good weekend reading, and better commentary than I could provide.
