The movement is growing! More and more people are recognizing the importance of supporting underserved students by providing rigorous and relevant learning opportunities to students outside of the school day and school year. Breakthrough Collaborative is one of a number of organizations that support the passage of federal legislation, such as the Serve America Act and the TIME Act, which would provide funding to expand effective models of extended learning time and help recruit more committed adults to mentor and tutor the students who need them.
Our friends at Citizen Schools also support the Serve America Act and the TIME Act and are proposing that this legislation, along with mobilizing millions of mentors, tutors and citizen teachers, be one of the best “Ideas for Change in America.” Change.org is having an “Ideas for Change” contest, the winners of which will be presented to President Obama and will be supported by a national lobbying campaign. We’re encouraging you to show your support by voting for this idea at this link (change.org).
